Health and Safety Officer Importer and wholesaler of oriental food products currently, seeking a Health and Safety Officer who can also offer HR support.

The role requires a hands-on approach to organise health and safety records and schedules, and risk assessments.  An excellent knowledge of retail industry will be desirable.

You will be fully responsible for health and safety in all five sites of the Company. This includes:-

Implementing Fire Procedures

Undertaking Risk Assessments

Updating and Issuing Health and Safety policies, procedures and manuals

Organising and co-ordinating staff training

Providing Health and Safety Induction Training to staff

Reporting and Investigating Accidents

Ensuring that all safety hazards have the correct procedures in place

Liaising with local authorities

Compliance with Legal Obligations

1.1 To advise and assist the Company Directors/Managers and other persons involved in planning, organising, controlling and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for work

1.2 To assist and develop Company’s policies

1.3 To implement Hoo Hing’s Health and Safety Procedures and develop local work procedures to comply with legal obligations

1.4 To review and develop the Warehouse/Cash and Carry Plan and communicate the plan at all level

1.5 Maintain the Warehouse/Cash and Carry risk register, and ensure that risk assessments are completed for all activities with significant risks

You will support human resource with disciplinary and grievance procedures including recruitment and retention of staff.

The successful candidate will be a member of a recognised health & safety institute and will have knowledge of statutory HSE legislation in the retail industry. You will ideally hold NEBOSH/IOSH/COSHH and or an Environmental qualification

Member of a recognised Health and Safety Institute (or willing to be trained).

Minimum 2 years experience essential.

Must have Full UK Driver’s License.

The position is based on 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday

Assistant Managers have organisational and management responsibilities, reporting to the superstore division manager. Because the business operates on a 7-days per week basis, Assistant Managers must be able to deputise for Store Managers and efficiently run a Chinese cash and carry branch dealing with all aspects of site management, including sales, stock control, health & safety, personnel and general administration.

Qualifications

Degree or equivalent (degree in a business related subject preferred)
Must be multi-lingual – English and Chinese (Mandarin & Cantonese) – written and   spoken

Experience

Experience not essential as training will be given.

Job and Candidate Specification:

Main responsibilities of the post:

*       To act as first point of contact for all queries from staff, customers and suppliers

*       To manage all cash and carry staff

*       To review job applications and arrange interviews as required 

*       To update the staff of all company policies, procedures and rules changes in meetings

*       To oversee and assist with stock control and ordering including organising and undertaking the quarterly stock checks and ensuring goods are always in stock

*       To log customer complaints and process as necessary

*       To attend meetings, conferences and training days relevant to projects 

*       To handle investigations and meetings for grievance and disciplinary procedure

*       To undertake any other project work that may be reasonably assigned from time to time

*       To organise and provide training for cash and carry staff

Knowledge/Technical skills

*       Must be Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) and English speaking

*       Ability to read and write Chinese

*       Ability to translate policies into Chinese

*       Must be able to work weekends

*       Must hold a valid U.K. driving license

*       Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages

*       Ability to work independently on own initiative with minimal supervision

*       Ability to interpret and apply company policies

*       Ability to analyse customer needs and make recommendation based on sound business knowledge and commercial acumen

Salary

Salary + bonus starts from £20,600 to £22,600 per annum

After training salary + bonus up to £27,000 per annum
